The Sydney Orthodontic Alumni warmly invites you to attend the 2025 Keith Godfrey Visiting Professor (KGVP) Meeting on Friday 21st November 2025 at the Crown Sydney. We are also excited to announce a post meeting gala dinner at the Crown to celebrate Professor Ali's 30th Anniversary as the Head and Chair of Orthodontics at the University of Sydney, as well as the 60th Anniversary of the Sydney University School of Orthodontics.

Guest Speaker: Professor Kee-Joon Lee

We have the honor of hosting the renowned Professor Kee-Joon Lee as the 2025 Keith Godfrey Visiting Professor. 

Dr. Kee-Joon Lee is a professor of the Department of Orthodontics, Yonsei University College of Dentistry, Seoul, Korea. He is former dean of the Yonsei University College of Dentistry. He is currently the president of the World Implant Orthodontic Association. He received DDS and PhD degree at the Graduate school, College of Dentistry, Yonsei University. 

He completed the orthodontics specialty training in Yonsei University Dental Hospital. He was a visiting scholar at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 2002-2004 and at the Division of Plastic Surgery, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in 2010-2011. He was an adjunct professor at the Department of Orthodontics, University of Pennsylvania between 2016 and 2019 and at Temple University between 2010 and 2011.

He has contributed many book chapters on biomechanics of miniscrew-driven orthodontics, non-extraction treatment in adults, up-to-date lingual orthodontic mechanics and surgery-first approached using TADs. He is the first who demonstrated the miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expander (MARPE) for adults in AJO-DO, which was cited by many other authors. He has published many articles and case reports regarding the treatment of non-eruption, and total arch movement for hyperdivergent face in orthodontic journals including cover issues in AJO-DO. His fields in research include clinical biomechanics regarding TADs application and the suture and bone responses to orthodontic stimulus. He is selected as the 2025 Kokich-Shapiro lecturer and 2025 Nanda lecturer. He has served as a reviewer in major orthodontic journals, including AJO-DO, Angle Orthodontists and European Journal of Orthodontics. He has been invited to many international orthodontic conferences around the world.


We are thrilled to welcome Professor Lee to Sydney to share his knowledge and invaluable insight  into the world of Orthodontics. He will be presenting on the following topics:

Professor Axel Spahr

Prof. Spahr is Head of the Discipline Periodontics at The University of Sydney Dental School. He is the former Head of Periodontics at the University of Ulm in Germany, the former Deputy Head of School at The University of Sydney Dental School and has worked at various international universities and research facilities. He has additional training in microbiology, molecular biology, extensive experience in basic science research, animal research and clinical research. 

He has led large externally funded research projects and is collaborating with leading international research groups and companies in the field of periodontology, implantology and bone regeneration. He has authored numerous publications in international peer-reviewed dental and medical journals, book chapters, and has presented his work at professional conferences worldwide. 
 
Prof. Spahr is a board registered periodontal specialist, working part-time in an established specialist periodontal and implant practice here in Sydney and is the past President of the Periodontal Research Group of the International Association of Dental Research (IADR). He is a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI), the International College of Dentists (ICD), and the Pierre Fauchard Academy (PFA). 

Associate Professor Arthur Teng

Dr Arthur Teng is a senior staff specialist paediatrician and Head of the Department of Sleep Medicine at the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick. Currently he is Conjoint Associate Professor in Paediatrics at the University of New South Wales. Dr Teng was appointed Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Tasmania School of Medicine and Consultant Paediatric Sleep Physician at the Launceston General Hospital in 2012. His clinical and research interests include the neuropsychological impact of sleep disorders in children, parasomnias, infant obstructive sleep apnoea and childhood narcolepsy. Dr Teng is been invited as speaker and presented papers in many national and international meetings. He is a Founding Council Member of the Asia-Pacific Paediatric Sleep Association (APSSA) and member  of the International Expert Panel on the www.babysleep.com Website. He has published up to 100 peer- reviewed papers and text-book chapters.
Dr Teng was Respiratory Fellow and Chief Resident Medical Officer at the then Prince of Wales Children’s Hospital before he completed training under Professor Colin Sullivan of the University of Sydney.

Ali has been a Professor of Orthodontics since 1997. He received his dentistry training from the University of Istanbul and his PhD from the University of Gazi, he has undertaken duties as a clinical instructor, research and postgraduate coordinator (Maître d’Assisstant et de Recherche) at the University of Geneva, Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina, Research Professor at the University of Southern California.
 
Ali has been recognized receiving awards including the Burstone Lecture, University of Connecticut, the Vasavi memorial Lecture (IOS), Distinguished Service Award (Australian Society of Orthodontics - ASO) - Long Service to the ASO & Association. Awarded to only 32 members to date, the Gerry Dickinson memorial Lecture (ASO), the R. Begg Award (ASO): The Society’s most prestigious award for an outstanding original research paper, or series of papers, with significance to orthodontics. Awarded to only 7 people to date, and the Sheldon Friel Memorial Lecture (EOS) : he received the highest recognition from the European Orthodontic Society which is awarded once a year to a clinician / researcher for his/her significant scientific contribution. He was recently awarded an Honorary Fellowship from the World Federation of Orthodontists.
 
His clinical practice includes children and adult orthodontics, management of sleep apnoea. He has lectured in North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.
